Chasing the Northern Lights: Aurora Borealis Adventures in Scandinavia

Chasing the Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, is an exciting quest. Witness its vibrant display as its vibrant colors dance across the night sky; experience this natural marvel best in Scandinavia where it is most visible.

Norway is famous for its spectacular fjords and breathtaking landscapes, making Tromso an excellent gateway into the Arctic Circle region and one of the best spots in the world to witness Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Tromso offers various tours that take visitors beyond city lights into wilderness areas where Aurora Borealis can be witnessed in all its glory – it truly is an experience both humbling and awe-inspiring!

From Norway, our adventure continues into Sweden. Abisko, located in Swedish Lapland, is another prime spot for Northern Lights viewing due to its distinct microclimate that creates clear skies for Aurora viewing. Mount Nuolja hosts the Aurora Sky Station which provides unobstructed views of the sky as well as chairlift rides to its summit where warm coffee awaits as you marvel at this fascinating light show.

Next on our Aurora Borealis tour is Finland, specifically Lapland where Northern Lights can be seen on up to 200 nights annually. Rovaniemi, known for being Santa’s official hometown, offers an immersive Aurora Borealis experience by staying in a glass igloo in Rovaniemi; these specially-made accommodations provide cozy warmth while allowing visitors to watch the stars through a window-side bed as the Northern Lights dance across the sky overhead – an unforgettable sight and sensational spectacle!

Iceland, known for its geysers and waterfalls as well as the Northern Lights, marks the final destination on our journey. For optimal Aurora Borealis viewing conditions in Iceland between September and March, take the Golden Circle route which includes Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and Blue Lagoon for a dip before hoping the lights appear!

Pursuing the Northern Lights in Scandinavia is both an adventure and an awe-inducing spectacle; both offer something unforgettable. Anticipation builds as the sun goes down, the sky darkens, and you venture deeper into the darkness in hopes of catching sight of those elusive lights – when their splendor finally appears it is pure magic that leaves you spellbound!

Packed your bags, and prepared to embark on the adventure of a lifetime? Chasing the Northern Lights through Scandinavia can leave memories to last a lifetime!
